iPhone Duo Pre-Order Guide UK: What to Do Before 1pm on 16 October

iPhone Duo pre-order guide — SmartphonesNetwork cover

Apple’s first foldable iPhone goes on pre-order in the UK at 1pm on Friday 16 October and on sale on Friday 23 October. Apple is also opening a “get ready” step on Monday 12 October, so you can set up your order in advance. If you want one early, here is what to sort out first.

The dates

  • Monday 12 October: Apple’s UK store page says to come back on 12 October to get ready for pre-order.
  • Friday 16 October, 1pm: pre-orders open.
  • Friday 23 October: the iPhone Duo goes on sale. Apple hasn’t published delivery estimates yet.

What “Get Ready” lets you do

MacRumors reports that from 12 October you can choose your colour and capacity, select a trade-in, add a payment method, confirm your carrier, pick an AppleCare+ plan, choose accessories and set your shipping and billing addresses, so that the order on the day is close to one tap. It works on Apple’s online store and in the Apple Store app. MacRumors doesn’t say which countries get it, but Apple’s UK store page carries the same 12 October message.

UK prices and finance

UK priceApple finance (0% APR, 30 months)
256GB£1,999£66.63 a month
512GB£2,199£73.30 a month
1TB£2,599£86.63 a month
2TB£3,199£106.63 a month

Apple has named two colours so far, Night Sky and Star White, and its UK price table lists them at the same price. Finance is credit and is subject to status, so read Apple’s terms before choosing it.

Six things to check before Friday

1. Your SIM. The iPhone Duo is eSIM only. Apple’s specifications say it “does not support a physical SIM”, and Vodafone lists it as “eSIM only”. If you are on a SIM-only deal, a pay-as-you-go plan or a smaller network, ask your provider whether it supports eSIM on iPhone and how to move your number, because you can’t just swap your SIM across.

2. Your trade-in. Apple’s process is to get an online estimate, then it sends a free kit with a prepaid label, and you have 14 days to send the old phone. Apple can revise the value if the condition differs from your description, and says the whole process can take two to three weeks. Getting the estimate done during Get Ready saves time on Friday.

3. Your payment details. Tom’s Guide advises checking that your card is valid and that your billing and shipping addresses match what your bank holds, because a mismatch can trip up a fast checkout.

4. The repair cover. Apple’s UK store page describes AppleCare+ (battery replacement below 80% capacity, accidental damage with a fee per claim) but doesn’t list a price for the iPhone Duo, and Apple hasn’t published out-of-warranty repair prices for the folding screen or hinge. Get Ready lets you pick an AppleCare+ plan, so see what Apple shows on 12 October before you commit £2,000.

5. Stock. Apple hasn’t published how many it will have. MacRumors says initial stock is expected to be limited and that pre-orders could sell out within minutes, citing reports of production problems. Treat that as a report rather than a fact. Tom’s Guide suggests choosing Apple Store pickup if delivery dates slip, and avoiding changes to your configuration at the last moment.

6. A charger. The box lists a 1m USB-C cable and no power adapter. Apple’s 50%-in-about-20-minutes charging claim needs a 60W-capable adapter, so budget for one if you don’t already have it.

Should you pre-order?

We haven’t found any full reviews of the iPhone Duo yet, only hands-on impressions from the launch, and the repair-cover price is still missing. If you’re certain you want one and the six checks above are fine, pre-ordering early is the safer route. If you’re unsure, waiting for reviews costs you a few weeks, not the chance to buy.

It also helps to know what else you can buy right now. The Honor Magic V6 has the same list price and is lighter, thinner and has a 3x zoom, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is £300 cheaper and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is £200 cheaper.
